Martin Luther is a soul singer who is recognized as one of San Francisco Bay Area’s premiere talents. As a singer songwriter he presents a distinct blend of jazz funk fusion and has served as lead vocalist for groups like the SFJAZZ Collective, The Roots and Too $hort to name a few. When not producing for himself, he creates and performs with Moon Medicin, a multi media performance ensemble that weaves found cinema and newly crafted songs with costumed theatrical production. Currently, Luther is putting the finishing touches on his 5th studio lp entitled Welcome Back Love.

As an actor and voice talent, McCoy is most remembered for his break out role of a Jimi Hendrix inspired character in the motion picture ‘Across the Universe’ (Sony/Columbia), directed by Julie Taymor. He has been seen and heard in commercials, on theatre stages (Father Comes Home From the Wars parts 1,2,3.) and on soundtracks like Chasing Liberty, The Roots Present, Dave Chapelle’s Block Party and more recently contributing original music to the score of The Oracle by interdisciplinary visual artist and Moon Medicin co-founder, Sanford Biggers.

Luther is also recognized for his collaborations with dance music savant/producer Miguel Migs. “Keep on Dreaming” is their latest effort on Salted Music. Martin has a special charm for covering classic songs and bringing a new edge to them, making them him own. Well, his version of Elton John’s “I guess that’s why they call it the blues” produced by Scojac ( Continuum ) is sure to satisfy fans of his raspy second tenor voice. Another crowd pleaser is the sizzling rnb song “Now”. Multi genre is one way to describe this sound but to Martin, it’s all him. From acoustic guitar and voice as most of his compositions are originally wrtiten, to the choices in the final production. “I tend to focus less on what is expected of an artist by the audience and point my attention towards that exciting edge of the unknown, the undone is where it’s at.”
