FAQs

What is Midtopia?

Midtopia is a non-profit innovation hub that’s revolutionizing the music industry by empowering independent musicians with practical tools and knowledge with the goal of enhancing artist creativity and creative output.

We’re like a cutting-edge think tank designed to fuel the independent music scene. We're reimagining what it means to be an artist today, developing innovative models of sustainability that empower musicians to thrive in a rapidly evolving world. Our core mission? To foster self-actualization in artists and music workers and build a strong, reliant independent music community.

But what exactly is self-actualization? It’s the ultimate creative fulfillment – the total realization of your artistic, intellectual, and social potential. It’s the internal drive to be an unstoppable creative force. We recognize the challenges and obstacles bands face, and we’re where to break through those barriers. We do this by providing resources, training, and tools that help independent musicians navigate the unique challenges of a rapidly changing music industry.

In essence, Midtopia exists so that musicians can do what they do best—create unforgettable music!

Where is Midtopia?

The heart of Elsewhere, the literal middle of the U.S.A, known colloquially as Wichita, Kansas.

Is Midtopia a label?

Great question. We're not exactly a label – but we offer an Artists-in-Residence program and provide a range of artist services that labels often provide.  The key differences? As a nonprofit, 100% of profits go straight back to the artists. We’re also driven by more than just producing records; we're creating an ecosystem for artistic growth and sustainability. We have a wide range of initiatives; ‘label’ services is only one of them.

What Sets Midtopia Apart from Traditional Record Labels?

Unlike traditional labels, Midtopia is a nonprofit organization, ensuring that 100% of profits go directly to the creators. This means artists retain full control of the revenue generated from their collaborations and projects. We’re creating an artist-first, sustainable environment where artists can focus on their craft over their finances. Midtopia is about supporting creators, not profiting from them.

If Midtopia is non profit, what does that mean for the artists?

Excellent question! At Midtopia, our mission is simple: empower and elevate artists. As a nonprofit, any revenue generated goes straight back to the creators. When you collaborate with us, you’re stepping into a model where artists keep the financial gains in full. In practical terms, this means that revenue generated from endeavors like live events or collaborations is fully controlled by the artists involved. Our goal is to put the power—and the profits—in the hands of the artists.

As a non-profit we can focus more holistically on music ecosystems. We’re building a future where sustainability and creativity go hand-in-hand, freeing you to focus on your passion without the stress of financial hurdles. We’re able to focus on the inter-dependent needs of the artist and the community with meaningful partnerships and connections that benefit musicians in a variety of ways. We’re able to work with a diverse set of partners in different sectors to accomplish our goal of innovating the music industry.
